A |     (ECNS) -- China’s gold consumption edged up 1.23% year on year in the first half of 2026, as strong demand for investment products offset a sharp decline in jewelry purchases, according to the China Gold Association.    Demand for gold bars and coins rose 28.42%, while gold jewelry consumption fell 33.88%. The association said high and volatile prices continued to reshape the market, boosting interest in physical gold investment while weighing on jewelry and industrial use.    Gold produced from domestic raw materials fell 14.62% after some mines temporarily halted operations for safety inspections. Meanwhile, output from overseas mines operated by major Chinese gold groups rose 21.43%.    China’s central bank boosted its gold reserves by 40.12 metric tons in the first half of 2026. From November 2024 to June 2026, it has been increasing its gold holdings for 20 consecutive months.    (By Intern Yang Hongran, Zhang Dongfang)                    。
